Claw Arm Built

Built the arm out of extra defilier parts. Some shading and cutting that didnt get a picture taken. This is before I went back and covered up the holes.

Holes covered and posed. Still detailing on the claw arm, along with the rest of the model.

Im thinking Friday I may focus on that detailing over building the tail. Or mag e I will try to do both. Detailing is going to be a huge raid on my bits box.

I am super happy with how he is turning out. Really captured my intent.

Claw Arm

Spent the short hobby week working on the second arm. Wanted it to match closer to the dreads than the stock chain sword allowed. Found some parts from my first major conversion, 2 defiler kits to make a brassscorpion. Wow, that was a long time ago - beginning for 40k 5th edition.

Thinking something like this. Still need to figure out how all the joints go together.

And for scale.

No hobby Friday thanks to halloween. Next week I hope to finish the arm and maybe start the tail next friday.

After that, I may only have clean up… lots of clean up.

Head Attached

Testing position of the head.

I liked the head up against the body, but i was out voted.

The test shot for the head with a neck.

Went with a three prong neck. I curved them up.

Head on. Shorter neck than the test shot.

The angel from the front. I like that i managed to get it so it wasnt looking straight forward.

Putting it on the body.

Testing how it looks on legs. Because of repose it wont stand solo anymore. That will be solved when I put rubble below the foot.

Top on, dry fit only.

Added a few details to the top.

And how far I am. Still need to go back and wrap up items, like gun angle and eyes. But next will be the left arm. It wont be the chainblade.

Short Friday

Dismantalled the top armor. Leaves the nice details on the sides showing. Really like it that way.

Also did some work on the head, but had to cut things short by 3 hours and didnt get a chance to take pictures.  Will keep working on the head next week.

Beginning of the Head

Added the hose to the warpstone to finish what I cut off. Still need to do a little clean up.

Wrapped the one side all around. This will give the inside a little color.

Ultimate warplightning cannon.

Starting out the head.

Used the Kdaai as the starting point, though Ive tweaked the proportions.  Also didnt cut eye holes this time. I will do something exterior this time.

While the head dried I started the jaw.

Gun Arm Almost Done

Still need to finish the cable but that needs to wait until the greenstuff has dried.

Legs are done, body is done. Gun army is almost done. Im thinking head next, that way I can make sure the angle of the claw doesn't interfere.

And The Hobby Update

No one showed to Friday Hobby Night and so I almost stopped before I started. In the end I decided to go ahead anyway and I am glad I did.

Cutting the new ball joint. Looks a little large, but then I feel the original was to small. Skaven do tech rough so I think it works.

Putting together the first leg.

And with the side pistons.

More angels.

Was going on such a role I did the second without remembering to take pictures. In addition to the pistons, I rotated the right hip about a millimeter back to give the walking pose. Ill put something scrappy under his foot at a later stage. Leg was still drying when I posted this, so no pic with torso on it.

Display Board Acquired

Got my Secret Weapon  Miniatures Tablescales tiles today after going down to the wearhouse.  They come in four styles; urban (included ruin and not), fields, temple and scrap yard.    I ordered these for a Grey Knights army that I no longer own to match my urban rubble bases, sold with the army.

Disclaimer: Justin and I are friends so take any "review" accordingly.

The tiles are waiting on the second half of the shipment before being mailed out to backers, but as I am local I was told I could swing by and pick up; i get early, he doesnt pay for shipping.

As the urban rubble went with my old army, and wasnt in the first shipment, Justin gave me the option if switching types. I took him up on his offer, switching to Scrap Yard which I felt met the Skaven theme much better.

They come in a box that is a little large. I was disappointed to see the glue seperating. It will be fixed with a few heavy duty staples and Justin already knows so he can have the factory do better in the future. Ill probably see if I can get some foam to carry them if they can fit in with my travel case. Right now my Fantasy board is a real drag as it has to be checked.

The set came with 4 tiles, to make a 2x2 display board. The above pic is one of the two flatter tiles.

Set also comes with corners and boarders. I hear they dont come with the full table sets. They are nice and I suggest getting them even if you get a full table. If I expand to the full table I will be sure to get enough sides to fit.

I love that it comes with a name plate since at least NorthStar includes that in their paint score.

Above I made a board with half the tiles just to see how it all went together. I picked the two tiles with more raised texture.

A zoom in of part of the texture.

In addition to matching bases, not shown as I didnt unpackaged them, I got 2 sets of scatter terrain. The top part is the wall set and the lower a wrecked tank. Justin had his crew cast these for me while I waited since they didnt have premade stock.

Close up of the wrecked tank.

One of the walls, a wreaked half track.

The top side. Almost a shame one side is flat.

A cockpit wall.

Love the detail.

These go on sale soon for non- kickstarter customers. They are already in stock, but Justin will wait to provide to backers first out of respect.

Hobby Update - Uppers

Realized I hadnt updated on my work progress this week. Last Friday I started working on the legs but found myself needing to purchase parts for the ankle rebuild. Ive now done that but wanted to wait until I had more than 30-45 minutes to do it correctly. I decided to work on the torso.

Im loving the side detail. I know I dont like the bulky armor top, so Im thinking I could build something slimmer and keep the details exposed.

Decided to mag the guns in case I ever changed my mind. Wasnt that hard, just a little scraping required on the long barrel.

The arm side.

The arm assembled. Love that its so posable. I left mine fully posable at this point.

Not sure what I want to do with the pistons. I dont think I can attach them and keep the arm fully posable. But then the weight of the gun may weigh it down enough that glueing will be required.

Problem for later.

My friends who have built this model tell me that the weight doesnt make the model need a waist magnet. This is a pic of me dry testing it. I think Im going to give the extra support for playing. The magnets wont be allowed to touch sothe  bond wont be extremely strong.

Tomorrow Im going to skaven up the arm and Friday hopefully go back to the legs.
