Im Back?

Well, 3 weeks into fatherhood and I finally got an evening where I could sneak down to the hobby shop. Got 3 more stormvermin converted, minus the green stuff and heads.

That leaves 4 guys left in the unit plus the 3 unit fillers.

Hobby Time versus Real Life

Baby prep has been taking up more and more of my time. This weekend I was preparing for the baby shower and then baby sitting during the baby shower so little time for hobby. Did manage to get one more stormvermin done.

That leaves 7 left before the unit fillers. I managed to pick out some bits for the next few so hopefully they will go together quickly once I get a chance to sit down again.

Hobby Update - 2 Down 8 Left

Ran out of rifles that I cut last time (6 months ago or something). I actually ended up cutting it a little shorter and repinning.

Second one, on right, got a clan rat arm to give him a more shooting pose. Cant say I am big fan of these guns after working with them. But the focus is on the vroom-vroom, this is just paying the core tax.

Hobby Update - Unit Command

Unit command done. Banner is from some dwarf kit, champion has an outrider repeater and musican is using a clan rat bone mallet. That leaves 10 guys left for the unit plus 3 unit fillers. I scrapped my old attempt at a filler and picked up something new.

Hobby Update - Destroyer Gets Destroyed

So I didnt really destory it, that would just be silly. I did dremel it up to make the parts a little more weathered. Hard to see on the pictures.

The large flat core piece got a little carving done. Most on the inside to open it up, but also around the outer edges.

Those edges that didnt get carved into, did get a little rounding off.

Here is a good shot of the insides open. Almost ready for the power core i think.

Face got a little more detailling. Where i didnt add I also scratched it up.

Some small details left i think. Also power and rivets.

Hobby Update - Power and Chains

Power supply is the next step. Drilled cross holes to give it some permancy. Theading was a fun challenge, especially the one that wasnt even.

To hold the power I put in wheels on the sides instead of running cables all the way across.

Here is one with the chain threaded.

The power cables will go across to both cable wheels and up and down to spine and tail. Hopefully the suspension wont make it hard to paint.

Second chain on.

Both chains.

The change in the wiring means ill need to take down the outer 4 pins some. Will have to find a cool bit to cap them with.

Also thinking about the carve out of that giant white square. It was great for initial support but I really feel the flat area detracts.

Hobby Day

Army count in prep for saws next weekend and i realized I was short a base.

Now on to the Kdaai.

Little liquid greenstuff for the gem to clean up the surgery from friday.

Engine exhaust port from a defiler, will become pistons and a mount for the neck.

First side on.

Second side on and spine finished.

Some more angles.

Now to work on the tail.

Found this nice piece from the steamtank, left over from an old project.

I put in the first plastic part, then decided that it would be easier  to make the tail while not connected to the model.

Testing the brass rod length.

Tail built.

Dry fitting power flail.

Decided to replace half the flail heads with warpstone. It should add color and is a little more skaven.

Hobby Update - Building the Head

Building the head while hanging out with friends.

Upper suppert beams.

Building of the lower jaw. Took a second try to get the angles cut how I wanted.

Back roller in to give the jaw some look of movement.

Lower jaw in place

From the back

Pistons for the jaw.

Blocking out some of the teeth.

Nearly finished head. All the teeth in place and you can see a hint of the pistons up inside. I added a back anchor point afterwards.

Excised the bottom part of the stone from the bastilodon. Happy I managed to save the other part of the piece. Im sure my Lizard playing friend will find a way to use it. Kept the gem, will use it as the power source.

Nearly done with core assembly. Need to create the neck pistons and attach the head. Then the power gem and the tail. After that its clean up, like wearing edges and extra details like armor, rivets and adding bits to the flar spaces.

Hobby Update - 2 Legs

Second leg built.

Rest are a few with the legs attached.

As you can see the spine is 3 segments. Tomorrow I will work on the head, upper and lower. When the head is done I will finish the spine to connect.
