For this mission we rolled… BATTLE LINE! I was just glad it wasn’t blood and glory as
those double ironblasters would be able to knock out Chris in one round, easy. The terrain was really positioned to our advantage. There were originally 3 small impassible
pieces next to the tree building. They
used their terrain move to clear one out, but it still left a good sized
portion of the board where horded units could not effectively move. I honestly wasn’t caring or paying enough
attention to realize it until it came into effect, but I figure I was the only
one on the table under that situation.
Shame on me, as that’s something I should have spotted.

Great Eagle
For spells Paul and Tony took mindrazor, pit of shades, miasma and the withering
on the shadow priest and searing doom and final transmutation on the metal
wizard. We took harmonic, bone crusher,
spinemarrow, trollguts and tooth cracker.
For deployment they gave the left flank to the sabertusks and the
mournfang and the center left to the ogres.
The elves then deployed center and right, first the white lions, then
the sword masters and lastly the sea guard.
The sword masters got the little wizard and the other went into the sea
guard. The put the eagle behind the
ogres, an ironblaster in the back on the left and the other in the center.
For our deployment we put our chameleons on the left, with some skinks
and other gnoblar/sabertusk chaff. My
ogres took the center with the big block, then more gnoblars and the man
eaters. In front of the ogres went the
stegadon, skinks and the salamanders. The
right flank was held by the skinks and another sabertusk.
We roll and get the first turn.
We advance and start to get into position. With a 5/5 magic phase (they steal one dice
from us and get 3 channels a turn) we fail to cast harmonic and then the magic
missile is dispelled. In the shooting
faze the chameleons do 1 wound to the mournfang. The ironblaster does 1 wound to the left
ironblaster – bad, very bad.
On their turn 1 they counter back.
A sabertusk on the left fails its close charge on skinks, but the
mournfang make it into the center and the eagle goes after my sabertusk on the
right (where we had placed it to try to draw the eagle out and keep it from
getting into skink flanks). An 8/3 magic
phase (damn that banner!) had us allowing -3 BS miasma on the man eaters. We then decide to cube the searing doom on
the steg as they rolled too high for us to dispel. Then both of their ironblasters misfire,
giving up this turn and next turn’s shooting.
The eagle fails its fear test, and each does a wound to the other. The Sabertusk then flees and gets run
down. The skinks die to the mournfang
but they take a wound.
On our turn 2 my iron guts take the charge on the mournfang. A 7/7 magic phase has us killing 1 mournfang
(only need 2 wounds) with the pulse along with 1 wound on a bull. I then cast stubborn on my ironguts just in
case. My ironblaster puts a wound on
their center ironblaster. The
salamanders kill 5 white lions and put another wound on a bull. We then kill 13 sea guard and the out of
position eagle. We finish up my skinking
2 more wounds onto the bulls and killing a sabertusk. The gnoblars that the mournfang over ran into
die and the combat continues.
On their turn 2 and an iron blaster charges skinks. The while lions and bulls charge a unit of
skinks, the lions in the flank. The
sword masters charge a unit of salamanders, which flee and then fail to
redirect. A 12/5 magic phase has us
missing our cube of darkness. They put
-2 WS on the ironguts, which we allow and then fail to dispel -3T on the iron
guts. Pit of shades kills 3 man eaters, panicking
them. 7 skinks die in to the ironblaster
along with the entire unit with the bulls/lions. He puts 2 wounds on my bsb and 1 on my
general, but I put to wounds onto him and he passes his leadership to stay
another round.
On our turn 3 and the carni joins the fight against the mournfang. The steg goes into the bulls. A 6/5 magic phase has the pulse killing 4
white lions, 1 bull, putting a wound on a mournfang and all of an eagle. They dispel regen and we dispel withering. We put another wound on an ironblaster and my
ironblaster decides to misfire and not fire again for the game. We also shoot some more sea guard, which
panic. We kill off the mournfang, kill a
bull and wound their general. They don’t
run for us.
On their turn 3 and the white lions charge gnoblars. The swordmasters then fail to join. A 5/2 magic phase (which started as a 2/1,
stupid banner) has them putting -3T back on the ironguts using all their dice
to power through. They once again double
misfire with their ironblasters, blowing one up and the one on the left
spinning around. 3 gnoblers flee after
putting a wound on their caster. The
stake does some wounds, takes some wounds and the combat continues.
On our turn 4 and the carni and the ironguts go to join the steg in
beating bulls. The gnoblars rally. A 7/7 magic phase has us failing to dispel withering
and ending the phase. The skinks and
chameleons kill off the second ironblaster.
We kill 11 swordmasters and 6 sea guard in shooting. In combat we kill 3 bulls, the bsb and lose
an irongut and our bsb. They hold thanks
to stubborn crown.
Their turn 4 and the white lions once again charge the gnoblars, losing
4 to the dangerous terrain. A ridiculous
11/4 magic phase has them casting a boosted miasma on the iron guts and only
getting -1. We fail to dispel a 6 dice
mindrazor on the bulls. The gnoblars die
off, but manager to kill the caster before being run down. Even with mindrazor they manage to whiff
huge, only putting 1 wound on the carni, 2 on the steg and 2 on the bulls
(that’s with withering, miasma and mindrazor!).
he makes his stubborn test.
On our turn 5 the man eaters charge the white lions. A 5/4 magic phase has us bubbling
trollguts. The skinks kill 2 sword
masters and some seaguard. The white
lions (4 left) die to the flanking maneaters.
The generals, now in a challenge do 1 wound to each other. He kills off the steg but we kill off the
bulls.
They decide to concede even with their turn 5 coming up. The combat was just his tyrant and my
slaughtermaster, and all of his spells would have to be re-added and all the
elves were down to 1 model in a unit. IN
the end we won by over 600 points and picked up our objectives.
